Manager of pasta factory where explosion occurred arrested

The manager of the Oba Makarna factory in the Hendek district of Sakarya, where an explosion left 1 person dead and 30 injured, has been arrested and sent to prison after being referred to the courthouse.

In the explosion that occurred on Sunday, September 15, at the Oba Makarna factory operating near the Hendek toll booths on the Anatolian Motorway, 1 person lost their life and 30 people were injured.

The fire that broke out as a result of the explosion was brought under control following the long efforts of the teams.

During the ongoing cooling efforts by the fire department, the lifeless body of 27-year-old Mesut Şimay was found inside the factory, and he was laid to rest in the Akyazı district.

MANAGER ARRESTED

Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan had announced that 2 inspectors were assigned to investigate the explosion at the factory. The teams' work to determine the cause of the explosion is ongoing. Within the scope of the investigation initiated by the Hendek Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, 7 suspects, including factory owners and managers, were summoned to the Hendek Courthouse yesterday to provide statements.

Detention orders were issued for 6 suspects whose statements were completed at the prosecutor's office during the night. One person was released after providing their statement.

The 6 suspects, who underwent health checks around noon today, were brought to the Hendek Courthouse. Following the judicial interrogation that lasted until late at night, the factory manager, V.U., was arrested and sent to prison.

FACTORY OWNERS RELEASED UNDER JUDICIAL CONTROL

Two factory owners, 1 occupational safety specialist, the mill supervisor, and the electrical maintenance specialist were released under judicial control conditions. The cause of the explosion is being investigated.

As the individual was being taken out of the Hendek Courthouse, their relatives used umbrellas and mobile phone lights to prevent journalists from taking footage.
