Mansur Yavaş responds to Yeniçağ newspaper over 'candidacy' claims

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş responded on his social media account to Yeniçağ newspaper, which had reported on claims by pro-government journalist Zafer Şahin that Yavaş would 'leave his post' and 'run for office in 2028'.

Events at the Republican People's Party (CHP) charter congress held on September 4-6 have become a central topic in politics.

During the speech crisis on the second day of the congress, ABB Mayor Mansur Yavaş, who took the podium after CHP leader Özgür Özel and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, expressed his frustration by stating that he had only been informed one hour prior that he would be speaking, adding, "You are adding fuel to the fire of discord by asking 'Ekrem or Mansur?'"

Milliyet columnist Zafer Şahin, known for his proximity to the government, claimed following the events at the CHP charter congress that Yavaş's words were a "subliminal farewell message" and alleged that it was being discussed in Ankara political circles that he would be a presidential candidate in the 2028 elections.

Yeniçağ newspaper reported on the claims of pro-government Milliyet columnist Zafer Şahin under the headline "Ankara political circles are boiling, no word from CHP! Mansur Yavaş has made up his mind by the end of the year."

Following the publication of the report, Mansur Yavaş made a brief statement on his social media account.

Quoting the report published by Yeniçağ newspaper on his social media account, Yavaş reacted by saying, "We understand some of them; they speak according to their own agendas. At least you shouldn't do this."
