Mansur Yavaş says pro-government journalist should be summoned for questioning

Ankara is hosting the May 2025 Ordinary Assembly Meeting of the Union of Municipalities of Türkiye.

Before the meeting, TBB President Zeydan Karalar and Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş made statements to journalists.

Yavaş said he would visit Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is being held in Silivri Prison, on Monday.

Making statements regarding the agenda, Yavaş emphasized that municipalities should be audited fairly and noted the following:

"Only CHP or opposition municipalities are being portrayed as guilty. The reason for this is that our mayors are extremely successful and are in a position to change the government. There is no other reason.

The inspectors who come always ask for the period after 2019. No one asks for the period before 2019. I assume the milestone for those newly elected will be 2024. We do not want public funds to be misappropriated. We say that anyone who touches public property is destined for hell. But everyone. Transparency is needed in this regard. Court of Accounts and ministry reports must be disclosed to everyone."

Continuing his speech, Yavaş addressed the statement 'Next is İSPARK' made by pro-government journalist Cem Küçük, who previously 'reported' on operations against the opposition on TV. Emphasizing that disinformation regarding investigations is being spread on television channels, Yavaş explained with reasons why pro-government journalist Cem Küçük should be summoned by the prosecutor's office for questioning following his 'İSPARK' statement.

Yavaş said the following:

"We came with a claim in 2019 and 2024: We are trying to prove that this country can be governed without robbery and without theft.

Mr. İmamoğlu also has a call. He says it should be broadcast live on TRT. We constantly see disinformation on TV.

Preparatory investigations are confidential. Anyone who violates the confidentiality of a preparatory investigation must be investigated. Regarding an ongoing trial, no statement that would influence the judiciary to this extent can be made.

But we saw it 2 days ago, a commentator on TV says 'Next is İSPARK'. The next day, this commentator should be summoned to the prosecutor's office. He needs to be summoned for 2 reasons.

If it is true, he should be told, 'Why did you announce it, they will take precautions, you hindered the investigation.'

If there is no such thing, he should be summoned to give a statement for 'why are you creating disinformation'."
