Mansur Yavaş shares statement following Ümit Özdağ's release decision

Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ, AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğanwas sent to Silivri Prison after being detained on allegations of insulting him and subsequently arrested on charges of inciting the public to hatred and enmity.

RELEASE DECISION FOR ÖZDAĞ

A release decision was issued for Ümit Özdağ in the case heard at the courtroom in Silivri Prison. Özdağ was sentenced to 2 years and 4 months in prison.

YAVAŞ FOLLOWED THE HEARING

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş followed the hearing in person, representing the CHP.

STATEMENT FROM YAVAŞ AFTER THE DECISION: "FOR 148 DAYS..."

Following the release decision for Özdağ, Yavaş made a statement on his X account.

Sharing a photo from the courtroom, Yavaş wrote the following note:

"The release of Mr. Ümit Özdağ, who remained imprisoned for 148 days in a file based on no legally valid evidence, is a very delayed manifestation of justice.

During this process, we were expecting the law to be fulfilled not just with a release, but with an acquittal.

The law must operate according to universal norms, not according to the individual, the opinion, or the political identity.

Justice must be felt not only at the moment of the decision but at every stage of the process.
