Mansur Yavaş slams Melih Gökçek and his son! 'There can be no talk of justice without them going to jail'

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş is set to hold a press conference regarding the investigation into concerts organized by the municipality. Leaving the municipal building to head to the hall where he would hold the meeting, Yavaş was greeted with chants of "Mansur Yavaş, the pride of Turkey."

The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into 32 concerts organized by the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality between 2021 and 2024.

Within the scope of the investigation, which was initiated over allegations of 154 million TL in public loss, 13 people were detained yesterday.

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş will hold a press conference regarding the operation at 14:00.

As Yavaş left the municipal building to hold the press conference, chants of "Mansur Yavaş, the pride of Turkey" were heard.

"Let's start with the concert business; we have made statements repeatedly. We had it examined one by one. No public loss was found in the inspection we conducted. Ministry of Interior inspectors also conducted examinations. I determined that their areas of expertise had nothing to do with this subject. However, these experts should have consisted of specialized individuals. The inspectors then sent the file to the prosecutor's office. They, in turn, identified a new panel of experts. On what basis did they calculate the account?"

Yavaş announced the list of experts in the Ministry of Interior inspection file that formed the basis for the investigation opened into the ABB:

  • Media expert
  • District Youth and Sports Deputy Director
  • Defterdarlık (Provincial Finance Office) Accounting Specialist
  • Defterdarlık (Provincial Finance Office) Accounting Specialist
  • Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports Personnel

"THIS PRACTICE MUST BE ABOLISHED"

Yavaş continued his remarks as follows:

We do not know how they determined the resulting amount. I have nothing to defend regarding the concert; if they made it expensive, they will pay the price, but if they didn't, they will be cleared. They were detained in the early hours of the morning; they have been working for years. Didn't they come when you called them for testimony? This practice must be abolished in Turkey. The same treatment was applied to our mayors.

"THERE CAN BE NO TALK OF JUSTICE WITHOUT GÖKÇEK AND HIS FAMILY BEING TRIED"

The person who announces the operation in advance when you ask who is the biggest troll and the biggest thief in Ankara, and then says 'I didn't mean it' when they see the reaction, is the one. I say that in this country, there can never be talk of justice without Gökçek and his entire family being tried. While there is someone who managed Ankara so dirtily, we came as proof that it can be managed cleanly. We will not steal, and we will not let others steal. There were those who said 'he steals but he works' before, but I will show proof that one can work without stealing. I have never eaten a forbidden morsel in my life. I have to shove the words of people whose children have never eaten a lawful morsel in their lives back down their throats.

"HE HAS TO GIVE HIS SON WORK"

"We have had nearly 100 complaints from the Gökçek era files regarding bid rigging and public loss. In 55 of them, a decision of non-prosecution was given by obtaining an expert report. In 11 of them, a decision of non-prosecution was given without obtaining an expert report. In 11 of them, an indictment was prepared. They will be tried, and after they are tried and the court finalizes the sentence, we will be able to call those people guilty. Two of these files are files where Melih Gökçek is a party. No action was taken on some of them. So, why did this happen?

The municipality's money went to Gökçek's son's football hobby. He has to give his son work. His father bought him a football team. By awarding tenders from certain companies and also giving the excavation revenue, a fairly large income of the municipality, to Osmanlıspor. Mr. Mustafa Tuna terminated this as soon as he arrived. How much public loss does there have to be for you to detain someone?

"WITHOUT BEING TRIED FOR FETÖ AS WELL..."

(FETÖ allegations) They are not doing anything to Melih Gökçek, but this fact is emerging. At that time, the President wanted him removed from office. He hesitated and hesitated, and months later he left. He started trying to save himself by saying 'the jinn deceived me.' You cannot talk about justice in this country without Gökçek and his family being tried for FETÖ as well. Osman is a graduate of Samanyolu College; aren't these criteria enough for him to be tried? There are also zoning rents they granted after 2015. Unfortunately, decisions of non-prosecution were given regarding these."

(Regarding municipal officials and council members) They went on Umrah with the municipality's money. There is no such thing as a small or large public loss, but how did you stomach going on Umrah with that forbidden money?

"GET OUT OF THAT HOUSE"

Mansur Yavaş announced that Melih Gökçek had the municipality pay for the furniture he bought for his own home.

Yavaş finally concluded his speech by addressing Melih Gökçek. Yavaş said, "Gökçek, that house you are sitting in illegally, it was determined by a court decision. Come on, get out of that house, go on, get out, you won't be left homeless. The boy is building a villa, he can let you sit on one floor," he said.
