Mansur Yavaş's 'Time is running out' statement! 'Anxiety is growing among mayors'

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş made assessments regarding the operations being conducted against CHP municipalities. Speaking at the Social Democratic Municipalism program organized by the Social Democracy Association in Ankara, Yavaş expressed that the process is creating pressure on mayors.

Stating that the issue should be addressed in detail upon Özgür Özel's return from his trip abroad, Yavaş said, "We need to make a collective decision and explain what is happening to both the Turkish and international public."

Noting that satisfaction rates for local governments are rising, Yavaş argued that recent developments have negatively affected this picture. Yavaş stated, "We are encountering news of a new operation every day. This situation is creating serious unease among all our mayors."

Touching upon posts targeting mayors on social media, Yavaş said that such rhetoric negatively affects the working environment. Yavaş said, "Expressions like 'you're next' are being used on some platforms. This approach discourages our colleagues who are performing their duties."

"TIME IS RUNNING OUT FOR A UNIFIED STANCE"

Emphasizing that a common stance must be taken against the developments, Yavaş drew attention to the rule of law and noted the following: "We are not advocating for anyone to be exempt from the law, but the arrest of elected officials is causing discomfort in society. The time has come, or is even passing, to display a unified stance on this issue."
