Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor and CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu shared a message for May 1st, Labor and Solidarity Day.

İmamoğlu, who is currently detained in Silivri Prison, drew attention to Taksim, which has been banned by the government, saying, "We are close to the days when we will celebrate May 1st in Taksim with millions, all together, with enthusiasm."

The May 1st message shared from İmamoğlu's social media account is as follows:

"Today is May 1st. The holiday of workers and laborers.

I celebrate May 1st for all my worker and laborer brothers and sisters from Silivri Prison.

Workers and laborers have been struggling for years for a humane life and working conditions. Those who create the world and life with their labor have long been fighting to receive the fruits of their labor and to work in humane conditions. May 1st symbolizes this long struggle, this difficult fight.

Happy May Day!

I know very well how difficult the conditions are for people who make a living with their labor in our country. The government, which has collapsed our economy, has made life even harder for the tens of millions struggling for their jobs and bread with the March 19th coup.

My Laborer Brothers and Sisters, Workers,

This order will certainly change. We will soon bring about a period where labor and the laborer will receive their due. The days when bans and oppression will end are very near.
