May Day message from the Workers' Party of Turkey: 'Salvation is in our own hands'

In a message released for May 1st, Labor and Solidarity Day, the Workers' Party of Turkey stated, 'Today, we will flock to the squares all over the world for the rights of our labor and join hands. We will say stop to the exploitation of our sweat and to the coup plotters.'

As May 1st, Labor and Solidarity Day, is celebrated as the international day of unity and struggle for the working class, the Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) has also released a message for this important day. In a statement made via social media, the party emphasized the power of the working class and expressed that they would take to the squares for the rights of labor.

'SALVATION IS IN OUR OWN HANDS'

In TİP's message, reference was made to a poem by Nâzım Hikmet, drawing attention to the awakening of the youth and the working class. The message included the following statements:

'Happy May 1st, the International Day of Unity, Struggle, and Solidarity of the working class. The poet of our struggle, Nâzım Hikmet, said in one of his poems;

'Do not be fooled by the stillness of the air,

what you call the sea sleeps and then awakens.'

Today we are more hopeful because the youth have become a sea, have awakened, and have stood up. They have torn down the barricade of fear. They have also paved the way for the working class.

Today, we will flock to the squares all over the world for the rights of our labor and join hands. We will say stop to the exploitation of our sweat and to the coup plotters.

Because it is the working class that holds the power. It is the working class that produces with its hands, that creates life with its hands.

And it is again the hands of the working class that will tear away the darkness that has descended upon the country and build a bright future.

We are not looking for a savior for ourselves.

Salvation is in our own hands.

It is time to take back everything they have stolen from us,

To build a country that is equal, free, just, and at peace,

To take our own destiny into our own hands for Independence, Democracy, and Socialism.

We will unite, we will grow our organized struggle, and we will definitely win.
