It had been learned that Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu was set to meet with Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek.
It was alleged that the courtesy visit İmamoğlu was scheduled to make around noon today had been canceled by Akın Gürlek.
Journalist İsmail Saymaz shared the information he obtained regarding these claims on the "Gündem Özel" program on Halktv.
"IT WAS NOT CANCELED, IT WAS POSTPONED"
"I had mentioned the Ekrem İmamoğlu and Akın Gürlek matter in our previous session. Of course, in the meantime, I was trying to reach out to prosecution sources to verify it. I could not reach the Chief Public Prosecutor himself, but I tried to verify this information through prosecution sources. They confirmed to me that a meeting was supposed to take place today but was canceled at the last minute.
They said the following, which is actually accurate. Akın Gürlek and İmamoğlu met while on a plane when Gürlek was Deputy Minister of Justice. However, they stated that this appointment was not made during that encounter. They met at the October 29 reception. While they were talking in an environment where the Governor was also present, İmamoğlu wanted to pay a 'courtesy visit' to congratulate him.
Following this, an appointment was made. According to courthouse and prosecution sources, a date had actually been set previously, but it was pushed back due to Ekrem Bey's busy schedule. In other words, they said that İmamoğlu determined the initial appointment date, and then it was postponed due to his workload. Later, it was decided that the meeting would take place today. However, prosecution sources say the following:
'Our Chief Public Prosecutor does indeed have a program in Ankara, but he had forgotten about this program. Therefore, it was realized later, and he had to cancel it for this reason.'
However, the meeting has not been canceled. After all, this is a courtesy visit. A courtesy visit is not something that would be canceled for political reasons. This visit will definitely take place.
I persistently asked, 'Was it canceled or postponed?' and they told me, 'It was not canceled, it will definitely take place at a later date.'"
