Mehmet Akif Ersoy's test result comes back 'positive'; AKP's Tayyar warns: The course has changed

Following reports in the press that former Habertürk Editor-in-Chief Mehmet Akif Ersoy's drug test returned positive, former AKP MP Şamil Tayyar stated that this development would change the course of the investigation and called on the government to "reorganize political and media relations and initiate a comprehensive purification process."

The results of the tests conducted on Mehmet Akif Ersoy, news anchor Ela Rümeysa Cebeci, and Mustafa Manaz have been added to the case file.

The report indicates that in the hair analysis of Ersoy and Manaz, "cocaine and metabolites" were detected, while it was alleged that both "cocaine" and "cannabis" tests for Cebeci came back positive.

Following this development, former AKP MP Şamil Tayyar addressed both Ersoy and the government in a post on his social media account.

AKP's Tayyar emphasized that the test results would directly affect the legal process, arguing that Mehmet Akif Ersoy should go to the prosecutor's office and provide a new statement.

In his post, Tayyar included the following statements:

"Mehmet Akif Ersoy's cocaine test coming back positive changes the course of the investigation. This test strengthens the testimonies of both open and secret witnesses. I believe Ersoy, who has denied all allegations, should apply to the prosecutor's office to give a new statement. I am of the opinion that if he does not sincerely clarify both the cocaine allegations and other claims, the burden of the case will become even heavier."

Call for a "new software" to the government

Addressing not only the Ersoy case but the general situation in his statement, Şamil Tayyar noted that this incident should serve as a turning point.

Stating that relations within the political and media worlds must be questioned, Tayyar offered the following suggestions to the government:

"Furthermore, I have a suggestion for the government: Let this chain of events be a starting point; let political/media relations be reorganized, and let a balance of benefits and burdens be established. If possible, let a process of cleansing and a new software update be spread across all areas of political and state life. This is now a necessity."
