Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek stated that they continue to take steps to strengthen justice in taxation and that they will share with the public the names of taxpayers who have tax debts and penalties of 5 million liras or more at each tax office.

Şimşek said, "We are giving time until the end of September for taxpayers who do not want their names to appear on the lists."

In his statement, Minister Şimşek pointed out that combating the informal economy and ensuring justice and efficiency in taxation are among the most important components of the economic program they are implementing.

Expressing that they have made various regulations as a government in this direction, Şimşek stated, "We continue to take steps to strengthen justice in taxation. We have given instructions for the publication of lists of taxpayers who have overdue tax and penalty debts that have not been paid. We will share with the public the names of taxpayers who have tax debts and penalties of 5 million liras or more at each tax office."

LISTS WILL BE PUBLISHED

Şimşek announced that in this context, lists containing taxpayer information will be published at all tax offices across Turkey between October 15-31, 2024, and on the Revenue Administration's website between November 1-15, 2024.

Minister Şimşek indicated that the General Communiqué of the Tax Procedure Law, which determines the procedures and principles regarding the subject, is about to be published, and reported that they will announce two separate lists.

Stating that the lists regarding those with debts will include taxes and penalties that were due as of December 31, 2023, but remained unpaid as of September 30, 2024, Şimşek noted that the other list to be announced will include taxpayers for whom taxes and penalties were calculated based on tax audits or appraisal commission decisions, regardless of whether they are in debt, whose assessments became final between June 1, 2023, and May 31, 2024.

'WE ARE GIVING TIME UNTIL THE END OF SEPTEMBER'

Pointing out that there is still a 1-month period to avoid being on these lists, known in the public as "tax deadbeats," Şimşek warned, "We are giving time until the end of September for taxpayers who do not want their names to appear on the 'tax deadbeat' lists we will announce."

Minister Şimşek reported that with the regulation, the debts of those who had income and corporate tax registration as of the date of the earthquakes in places affected by the earthquakes that occurred in Kahramanmaraş will not be announced regarding finalized or overdue but unpaid taxes and penalties.
