Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek was a guest on a joint live broadcast on Bloomberg HT and Habertürk to evaluate current economic developments.
During the program, Şimşek made assessments regarding international trade and used notable expressions concerning the tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump on various countries, which have been postponed for 90 days. “The tariffs Trump has imposed on other countries are far higher than those on Turkey. Therefore, we have an advantage in terms of trade. There is a high probability that producers in Asia will shift production to Turkey to benefit from our tariff advantage. Some Asian countries may shift their manufacturing investments to us; we are in talks in this area,” he stated, arguing that Turkey could be positively affected by this process.
UNANSWERED QUESTION DREW ATTENTION
As reported by Sözcü, during a segment of the broadcast, Minister Şimşek focused on the causes of fluctuations in the economy and expressed the impact of external factors. However, at that moment, a question posed by Bloomberg HT General Manager Ali Can Türkoğlu became a notable highlight.
Türkoğlu asked, “Does only the external situation need to calm down for normalization in the economy? Or does the internal side need to calm down as well? Because it does not look like it is going to calm down.”
Şimşek changed the subject without answering this question and continued his evaluations through other economic topics.
