Mehmet Türkmen detained again at union headquarters! 'You will not intimidate us'
Mehmet Türkmen, Chairman of BİRTEK SEN, who is leading the ongoing workers' resistance in Gaziantep, has been detained once again at the union headquarters. As the strike initiated by workers rejecting a 30 percent raise continues, union officials stated that they will resist the pressure.

Approximately 2 thousand workers in the textile factories at the Gaziantep Organized Industrial Zone have gone on strike, rejecting a 30 percent raise. While the workers' struggle continues, Mehmet Türkmen, Chairman of the United Textile, Weaving and Leather Workers' Union (BİRTEK SEN), has been detained again.
Following the second detention of Türkmen, a statement from BİRTEK SEN said the following:
"If you think you will intimidate us with detentions and threats, you are mistaken!
Against all pressure and intimidation policies, we call on all workers, especially the Başpınar workers, to unite around our union.
We will teach you that unionization is a right!"

Mehmet Türkmen was detained on February 14 before a press statement to be made by the workers who went on strike, and was released on the same day.
