An important agreement has been reached in Syria between the Damascus administration and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), the Syrian branch of the PKK/PYD terrorist organization that controls the northeast of the country.
The leader of the interim administration, President Ahmed al-Shara, and SDF ringleader Mazloum Abdi signed the eight-point memorandum on March 10.
While Ankara is closely monitoring the SDF's decision to integrate into the Syrian administration, it maintains a cautious approach. In this process, Chief Advisor to the President Mehmet Uçum evaluated the agreement. Uçum stated, "This memorandum is important from the perspective of a terror-free region."
The article titled “The Memorandum Between the Syrian Revolutionary Administration and the SDF!” published by Chief Advisor to the President Mehmet Uçum on social media is as follows:
“The memorandum made between the Revolutionary Administration in Syria and the SDF is one of the greatest pieces of evidence, after the Imralı call, that every kind of imperialist separatist project attempted to be carried out by using the Kurds of the region has entered a liquidation process. The memorandum itself and its possible consequences are more important than who took part in the process of making the memorandum and with what calculations.
This memorandum is important in terms of showing the effects of the terror-free Turkey goal on the region and from the perspective of a terror-free region. It is understood that Turkey will carefully monitor the fulfillment of the requirements of the memorandum. It is also seen that Turkey's determination in the uninterrupted fight against terrorism will contribute to the implementation of this memorandum.
Some of the results of this memorandum that stand out for Turkey at first glance can be expressed as follows:
- After the Revolution of December 8 in Syria, imperialist circles using internal terror elements had put forward the deception of a United Syria based on fragmentation. It is seen that this deception has collapsed. Instead, the goal of Syria's Unity, which Turkey has defended from the beginning, has become stronger. This memorandum is an important step taken regarding the Unity of Syria. It is also understood that the opportunities are gradually narrowing for those who will continue to strive for the fragmented Syria project.
- In terms of the goal of a terror-free Turkey, it has been confirmed with this memorandum that the terror elements in Syria are within the scope. The memorandum also signals that the liquidation process of the terror elements in Syria has begun.
- It is better understood with every concrete step that Turkey has become the main ally of Syria in the reconstruction of Syria. This memorandum is one of the indicators of this.
Of course, Turkey will maintain its clear stance against those who attempt to incite sectarian conflict and will stand by all the oppressed and innocent in the region. In addition, Turkey will continue its high-level solidarity with the Syrian Revolutionary Administration against Israel's aggressions towards the Unity of Syria.
As a result, as our President Erdoğan said, ‘Every effort towards clearing Syria of terrorism is a step in the right direction.’ What is expected now is the ‘full implementation of the reached memorandum.’”
