Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu’s wife, Dilek İmamoğlu, became a trending topic after footage of her singing with friends in Italy was shared on social media.

REACTION FROM MELİH GÖKÇEK

Former Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Melih Gökçek criticized the footage of Dilek İmamoğlu on his social media account. Gökçek stated, "Dilek İmamoğlu is intoxicated in Italy, tearing up the place. Ekrem must be proud. But what do the people of Istanbul think?"

SHARP RESPONSE FROM EKREM İMAMOĞLU

The response to Melih Gökçek's statements came from IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. Answering a question on the subject from İsmail Küçükkaya on Halk TV, İmamoğlu expressed his reaction with the following words:

"It is truly sad that some people who are mired in mud use their political representative identity to make such ugly accusations. My wife is a well-educated Turkish woman. Have we been able to build a Turkey where women can walk and sing freely? No. And unfortunately, when such issues are treated as part of private life, they become something that offends women and families. This is a problem we see not only in Mr. Melih Gökçek's style but also in the President's style from time to time. This is an issue that must be approached with sensitivity."


Stating that targeting his family does not fit within any moral framework, İmamoğlu emphasized that such statements harm social peace.
