‘Meritless’ restructuring continues in education: From music teacher to District Youth and Sports Director

It has been learned that the network in Mersin's Çamlıyayla district, which has come to the agenda with public losses and dubious appointments made by the AKP-MHP, ensured that Çamlıyayla District National Education Branch Manager Abdurrahman Akbuğa, who had been on administrative leave for approximately 7 months following our report, returned to duty, and that Mehmet Ağar was removed from his position but continued in a role where 'merit' is not required.

It was alleged that Çamlıyayla District National Education Branch Manager Abdurrahman Akbuğa had spent the approximately 7-month period since January 2026 almost entirely on medical reports and leave. While it was stated that Akbuğa had effectively exploited a loophole in the system by taking leave in five-day periods, it was learned that he was effectively reinstated to his position following our report.

ALLEGATION THAT OUR REPORT WAS BLOCKED

It is alleged that our report published on 12punto.com.tr titled “Allegation of ‘public loss and administrative negligence’ in education: Mafia-like network continues to commit crimes” was removed through the AKP and Eğitim-Bir-Sen after it was published in local newspapers. The removal of the report after it was shared by the page named Tarsus Güncel is also linked to this situation.

REINSTATED TO DUTY

According to information obtained by 12punto, Akbuğa returned to the District National Education Directorate on Thursday, July 16, and effectively resumed his duties.

On the other hand, during this process, Akbuğa continued to receive his salary as a permanent District National Education Branch Manager, while the teacher Mehmet Ağar, who was appointed in his place as a proxy, also received additional course fees, which confirmed that a clear public loss had been created in the institution.

WHAT HAPPENED TO AĞAR?

Following our report on 12punto.com.tr, it was revealed that Mehmet Ağar, known for his close ties to the AKP and MHP and for being kept in his seat irregularly by the District Governorship despite his governorship assignment ending as of March, had an additional duty alongside his acting Branch Managership.

“MERIT” DEBATE FROM MUSIC TO SPORTS

Although Mehmet Ağar's field is stated as “Music teaching” on the official website of Çamlıyayla Atatürk Secondary School, he was listed as the Acting District Director of Youth and Sports in the Protocol List on the Çamlıyayla District Governorship's website.

In a new post made on the official page of the Çamlıyayla District National Education Directorate, it was noted that Mehmet Ağar, who visited District National Education Director İsmail Bahadır Çetin, was referred to as the “District Youth and Sports Director.”
