The Ministry of Trade's Customs Enforcement teams seized 77 kilograms of cocaine in an operation carried out at Mersin Port.

According to the statement made by the Ministry, containers brought to the port from Central and South American countries were placed under scrutiny.

A container loaded with bananas was deemed suspicious and sent for x-ray scanning, then taken to a search hangar for a detailed inspection.

During the search conducted by customs enforcement teams using narcotic detector dogs, 77 kilograms of cocaine hidden in a secret compartment in the front part of the container were seized.

An investigation has been launched by the Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the incident, and two suspects have been detained.
