Bekir Aslan, known as "Basel," who was arrested on the grounds of a banner reading "DEV GENZ" opened at Kadıköy gatherings and a Grup Yorum song, has sent a message from the Silivri Closed Penal Institution where he is being held.

Aslan stated, "I am just laughing in the face of such absurdity, and I am also receiving news of friends who have recently been released. Thanks to you, Silivri is warmer than ever. I am very peaceful here with my tea, my cigarette, and my book."

Bekir Aslan's message:

"Greetings.

My morale is very high; I am truly happy. I am not saying these things just to pump up hope for you.

If I am lying, may I become Melih Gökçek. I would like to thank everyone who reached out and supported me, especially Fatih, Begüm, Öykü, and Elif from GSÜ and TİP. How could a person feel alone when they have so many comrades?

From Friday evening until Monday, I stayed alone in a cell in Metris. Unfortunately, out of necessity, I read Semerkat from YKY. I will also spend the night alone in a cell in Silivri. I am just laughing in the face of such absurdity, and I am also receiving news of friends who have recently been released. Thanks to you, Silivri is warmer than ever. I am very peaceful here with my tea, my cigarette, and my book.

My only trouble is that I am only able to support the struggle outside, your fight for rights, law, and justice, through letters; I embrace you all. Since there are no aunts here to give me the tobacco they rolled, I will learn to roll my own cigarettes. I kiss you all.

WE ARE NOT AFRAID "
