It has emerged that Ankara Deputy Police Chief Murat Çelik, who was arrested as part of the Ayhan Bora Kaplan operation that has been the talk of Turkey, sent a message to Tolgahan Demirbaş, a suspect in the Sinan Ateş murder, after the killing.
It was revealed that a message was sent via WhatsApp by Ankara Deputy Police Chief Murat Çelik to Demirbaş—who was also reported to have spoken with MHP Deputy Chairman İzzet Ulvi Yönter three hours before Ateş was killed—immediately after he was taken into custody one day after the murder.
According to a report by Gerçek Gündem, Sinan Ateş was shot and killed by hitman Eray Özyağcı in Çukurambar, Ankara, on December 30, 2022. MHP official Tolgahan Demirbaş was taken into custody at 23:45, one day after the incident, on charges of instigating the murder.
It was reported in the press that Demirbaş was taken into custody at the home of Olcay Kılavuz, who was an MHP Mersin MP at the time, and that the detention record in question was destroyed. While Demirbaş and Kılavuz denied these allegations, police chief Kerem Gökay Öner, who is currently in custody as part of the Ayhan Bora Kaplan criminal organization case, filed a criminal complaint stating that Demirbaş was not taken into custody on the street, but at the house where Olcay Kılavuz was present.

According to the expert report on Demirbaş's digital devices, it was learned that Murat Çelik sent a message via WhatsApp to Tolgahan Demirbaş, who was taken into custody at 23:45, on New Year's Eve, January 1, 2023, at 00:25.
After 02:00, the phone was turned off completely. It is likely that the police officers who detained him confiscated Demirbaş's phone after that time.
While the report includes the traffic of the communication, it does not contain any information regarding the content. For this reason, what Çelik wrote to Demirbaş remains a question mark.
ARRESTED IN THE ABK INVESTIGATION
Serdar Sertçelik, who is accused of being the number two of the Ayhan Bora Kaplan criminal organization, fled abroad after becoming a secret witness and being released, and claimed that he was forced by the aforementioned police chiefs to testify against members of the government.
Ankara Deputy Police Chief Murat Çelik, Ankara Police Organized Crime Branch Manager Kerem Öner, and his deputy Şevket Demircan were removed from their posts last May due to allegations of links to the Ayhan Bora Kaplan organized crime group.
Seven suspects, including Ankara Deputy Police Chief in Charge of Organized Crime Murat Çelik, Organized Crime Branch Deputy Manager Şevket Demircan, and Organized Branch Commissioner Ufuk Gültekin, who were detained some time after their removal from duty, were arrested on May 19 by the court they were brought before.
