BİRTEK-SEN General President Mehmet Türkmen, who was detained on February 14 and subsequently released after protests against the imposition of low wages in Gaziantep were banned by the governor's office, was detained again and then arrested.
Türkmen met with his lawyers in prison. Following the meeting, Türkmen's message was shared via BİRTEK-SEN's social media account.
The post included the following statements:
"Our union's lawyers conveyed the public reaction that emerged after my arrest decision. Many thanks to everyone who has shown solidarity since yesterday and gathered in front of our union. This solidarity has also helped keep my morale high. This lawlessness will surely end. We will achieve this together. Since the first day, Başpınar workers have been saying, 'we need a roof' under the pouring rain and snow. That roof is BİRTEK-SEN.
Now is the time to grow the militant BİRTEK-SEN, which the workers have built! We will win by uniting and by resisting!"
