Message from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the Montreux Convention Regarding the Regime of the Straits

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the Montreux Convention Regarding the Regime of the Straits has been implemented with impartiality, transparency, and diligence for 90 years, declaring, "Turkey will continue to implement the Montreux Convention with the same determination as it has until today."

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a written statement on the 90th anniversary of the signing of the Montreux Convention Regarding the Regime of the Straits. The statement noted that the convention, signed on July 20, 1936, confirmed Turkey's sovereignty over the Turkish Straits, which are its internal waters, and stated, "The Montreux Convention has been implemented by our country with impartiality, transparency, and diligence for exactly 90 years."

Emphasizing that the convention is one of the main guarantors of peace, security, and stability in the Black Sea, the statement continued, "The Convention, which is one of the main guarantors of peace, security, and stability in the Black Sea, has maintained its validity without interruption during both times of peace and war, and has proven its value. Turkey will continue to implement the Montreux Convention with the same determination as it has until today."
