Meteorology announces the time: A storm that will uproot trees is coming to Istanbul
The General Directorate of Meteorology, AKOM, governorates, and the Ministry of Interior have issued repeated warnings for a severe lodos (southwesterly wind) that will exceed 90 kilometers per hour. It has been reported that the storm in Istanbul will reach hurricane-force thresholds within hours and reach a level capable of uprooting trees.

While temperatures across Turkey were expected to drop suddenly and strong winds were expected to increase in intensity at the start of the week, the anticipated weather system entered the country earlier and more powerfully than predicted. The General Directorate of Meteorology issued numerous warnings, stating that the lodos, in particular, could reach 90 kilometers per hour.
The Ministry of Interior, governorates, and the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) also issued notifications with a yellow-coded warning list covering 61 provinces to inform citizens about potential negative impacts. Assessments indicated that Istanbul is among the provinces that will be most affected by the storm.
THE STORM IN ISTANBUL WILL INTENSIFY THROUGHOUT THE DAY
According to information shared by AKOM, the storm's impact in Istanbul is expected to increase as of 08:00 in the morning. It was emphasized that the strong lodos will show sudden accelerations throughout the day and that the wind will increase in intensity with occasional fierce gusts.
While wind speeds across the city are expected to reach up to 90 kilometers, it was noted that the wind will blow much more strongly off the Black Sea coast. On the northern coasts of Istanbul, wind speeds are projected to reach 120 kilometers.
According to meteorological data, the lodos, which will strengthen with hourly increases, is expected to reach pre-hurricane levels. It was recalled that according to the Beaufort scale used by the General Directorate of Meteorology, wind speeds just before the hurricane threshold are in the range of 103 to 117 kilometers.
It was reported that the wind, which will cause foaming and heavy spray at sea, will significantly reduce visibility, and on land, it will pose a risk to structural and environmental safety.
THE TIME WHEN IT WILL UPROOT TREES HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED
According to the hourly forecasts of meteorological applications, the storm is expected to reach its most severe level in Istanbul, particularly on the European Side, by 15:00. During this period, it was stated that the wind would be strong enough to topple trees and cause roofs to blow off.
Authorities have warned citizens to be careful in open areas and to stay away from risky zones.
THE DIRECTION WILL CHANGE IN THE EVENING HOURS
According to forecasts, the lodos is expected to gradually decrease in intensity as of 18:00 in the evening and largely calm down towards midnight. However, the possibility of a cold air wave and snowfall will then come to the fore.
