The National Security Council (MGK) meeting, chaired by Erdoğan, has concluded after lasting 2.5 hours.
A written statement was issued regarding the decisions taken at the MGK. In the statement released after the meeting, emphasis was placed on the fight against terrorism. Furthermore, the statement also covered topics such as strategic cooperation with Iraq, attacks by terrorist organizations in European countries, the ongoing massacre in Gaza, and the March 31 local elections.
The following was noted in the statement:
The Council was briefed on the operations carried out with determination, resolve, and success both domestically and abroad against all kinds of threats and dangers directed at our national unity, solidarity, and survival, primarily the PKK/KCK-PYD/YPG, FETÖ, and DAESH terrorist organizations.
Satisfaction was expressed regarding the strengthening of the strategic cooperation foundation established with our neighbor Iraq; the importance of continuing joint and multi-dimensional efforts, particularly in the fields of security, economy, energy, and transportation, with a long-term perspective in order to build a prosperous region and future was emphasized.
It was underlined that there will be no place for terrorist organizations and their supporters in the future of our region under any circumstances; it was pointed out that it is important for all actors who encourage terrorist organizations to act with common sense and permanently and immediately sever their ties with terrorism.
It was stated that the attacks by the PKK/KCK-PYD/YPG terrorist organization targeting our citizens living in Europe and our representative offices are being closely monitored; it was once again reminded to the states responsible for preventing these heinous attacks, which reveal the true face of the separatist terrorist organization, and for punishing those responsible, that tolerating terrorist organizations will sooner or later result in the disruption of their own public order and ultimately lead to them becoming targets of terrorism themselves.
It was stated that the failure to prevent Israel's attacks and inhumane practices, which disregard international law while continuing the massacre in Gaza despite the decisions of the International Court of Justice and the United Nations Security Council, will increase the current wear and tear of the international system and lead to its legitimacy being questioned further. It was emphasized that not only the perpetrators but also their collaborators will have to face the consequences of the massacres taking place before the eyes of the world; the international community was called upon to support our efforts to end the attacks on the people of Gaza and aid organizations as soon as possible, to deliver comprehensive humanitarian aid to the region, and to achieve lasting peace.
It was emphasized that satisfaction was felt regarding the fact that the March 31, 2024, general local administration elections were held in an environment of peace and security, worthy of our strong democratic tradition, through the foresight of our citizens and the diligent work of all our institutions.
