Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's call for the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, Abdullah Öcalan, to 'Come and speak at the Turkish Grand National Assembly' has become the primary focus of Turkey's agenda.
While political circles have been stirred by this call, discussions taking place within the corridors of the MHP have also emerged.
According to a report by Yeni Şafak, known for its proximity to the government, this move by Bahçeli is being interpreted within the party as a historic turning point.
MHP DEFENDS IT IS NOT AN 'OPENING'
Emphasizing that Bahçeli's call is not an 'opening' (açılım), MHP sources stated that he made this announcement "considering the problems in the region, in this environment where the world order is being restructured, and because Turkey, as a leader in its region, wants to have a say in the global order, and therefore to completely remove terrorism from the country's agenda."
MESSAGE TO THE TERRORIST ORGANIZATION: DO NOT BE THE PUPPET OF THE US OR ISRAEL
It was stated that with these words, Bahçeli sent a message to the West, especially the US, saying, "This issue is our issue." Furthermore, it was noted that a message was sent to the terrorist organization: "Do not be the puppets of the US or Israel; come and talk to us. We set the equation in the region, the initiative is ours."
PREEMPTIVE ACTION AGAINST PYD/YPG
It is also being discussed that Bahçeli took this step in response to Israel's expansionist policies in the region. It is stated that Bahçeli is taking preemptive action against the danger of a structure being established in the region via the PYD and YPG should Israel target Damascus. It is evaluated as a move to disrupt the grand game intended to be set up in the region through terrorist organizations.
"IT WILL LEGITIMIZE THE STRUGGLE"
It is also stated that Bahçeli made this call to ease Turkey's hand in the fight against terrorism. It is expressed that Bahçeli sent the message, "We have done our best, but the terrorist organization continues to do as it pleases," and that for this reason, the fight against terrorism will become more legitimate.
"A TEST FOR DEM PARTY"
Another interpretation is that Bahçeli wants to test the DEM Party, which conducts politics through the terrorist leader Öcalan. Comments are also being made that he wants to gauge Öcalan's influence over the DEM Party.
EMPHASIS ON THE "CENTURY OF TURKEY"
Reminding of the burden that the fight against terrorism places on the country, it is stated that Bahçeli sent the message, "Let us finish the fight against terrorism completely, let us get back to our work. Let us focus on the goals of the Century of Turkey."
MHP Deputy Chairman Feti Yıldız also shared a message on his social media account, stating, "October 22 is a milestone in Turkish politics. From today on, political evaluations will be made as 'before October 22' and 'after October 22'."
