A sharp reaction to these words from Dervişoğlu came from the MHP.

Stating that MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli has opened a debate on "status" for İmralı, Dervişoğlu strongly opposed any political role being attributed to Abdullah Öcalan.

Emphasizing that İmralı is a prison and that the concept of "status" relates to state sovereignty, Dervişoğlu argued that any approach that would amount to negotiating with terrorism would damage the founding principles of the state.

Reacting to assessments that Öcalan has "contributed greatly" to the process and therefore "should be granted status," Dervişoğlu said, "If you love him so much, take a badge in your hand, go to İmralı, and pin it on his lapel.

Criticizing the fact that Bahçeli's statements were applauded in Parliament, Dervişoğlu attacked the MHP group with the words, "They call him a founding leader and applaud, they say he should be given status and they applaud."

While we want to put an end to their exploitation, why are you kicking up such a fuss?

Do you begrudge our noble nation peace, reconciliation, and tranquility?

Do you insist on wanting to see an enemy in front of you?

Does your political existence depend on the existence of the PKK?

Why are you in such a rush to make something that does not exist appear as if it does?

Barren politics has no offspring.

A scenario for prosperity cannot be written in a tent theater.

A political life spent on illusion and magic will quickly run out, be warned.
