MHP files extraordinary appeal for Kütahya, won by CHP

The March 31 Local Administration General Elections objection process continues. In Kütahya, the MHP Provincial Presidency had filed an objection with the District Election Board for a recount of invalid votes. The Central District Election Board had decided to recount the invalid votes in 549 ballot boxes where 142 thousand 770 voters cast their ballots. In accordance with the decision, 5 thousand 659 invalid votes were recounted at the Central District Election Board in the Kütahya Courthouse.

VOTES INCREASED

In the recount, the vote count for CHP candidate Eyüp Kahveci rose to 40 thousand 739, and the vote count for MHP candidate Alim Işık rose to 40 thousand 168. The margin between them decreased from 602 to 571, and there was no change in the election result.

Following the situation, MHP candidate Işık filed an extraordinary appeal with the Supreme Election Council (YSK) today for the cancellation and renewal of the elections.

EXPLAINED THE GROUNDS FOR THE APPEAL

Making statements to members of the press after the appeal application, Işık said, “As a result of the process regarding the recount of invalid votes, we identified irregularities in 275 out of a total of 549 ballot boxes, including, most notably, torn ballot sacks, sacks arriving with unsealed bags, ballot sacks without two seals, ballot sacks from which invalid ballots did not emerge, sacks where invalid ballots were not separated, tied, and sealed, ballot sacks where valid and invalid ballots were mixed, ballot sacks from which incorrectly printed ballots emerged among valid votes, ballot sacks where the recount report was incorrectly prepared, ballot sacks where the ballot box committee refused to recount all votes in boxes where invalid votes were missing, and ballot sacks where valid votes emerged from among the invalid votes.”

DEMAND IS THE CANCELLATION OF THE ELECTION

Claiming that they have identified very serious findings regarding objections to the integrity of the election, Işık stated, “We have requested from the YSK that the Kütahya Mayoral Election be cancelled and renewed due to events and circumstances that occurred during the mayoral election held in Kütahya on March 31 that affected the result and integrity of the election, the fact that the number of such votes is sufficient to close the vote gap between the two parties, and due to full illegality, within the scope of Articles 67 and 79 of the Constitution, Articles 25 and 29 of Law No. 2972, and Articles 14, 110, 112, and 130 of Law No. 298.”

Işık stated that they presented the evidence in the appeal petition they submitted to the YSK, grouping which irregularities occurred in which ballot boxes.
