MHP Rize Provincial Chair İhsan Alkan drew attention to the economic hardships faced by retirees. Stating that rent prices in the city have exceeded 20 thousand liras, Alkan expressed that retirees are struggling to make ends meet under current conditions.

According to Sözcü, Alkan, who made evaluations regarding the current agenda, explained the difficulties retirees face in daily life with examples. Alkan said, “A retiree cannot even buy a gift for their grandchild once a month,” and shared the words his mother said to him as follows:

“My mother tells me, ‘If you cannot solve this, you will get the answer at the ballot box.’ What can I say to my mother? I say, ‘You are right, mother.’ If we cannot solve the retiree's problem, we will not get votes either. In Rize, rents have exceeded 20 thousand liras; the cheapest house has surpassed 20 thousand liras. It is impossible for a retiree to make a living under these conditions. A retiree cannot even buy a gift for their grandchild once a month.”

Emphasizing that they are part of the People's Alliance but are not in an executive position, Alkan said they would continue to voice these issues. Alkan stated, “We see the problems, we speak up. If the People's Alliance cannot make the retiree happy, it cannot get votes either. If we can solve the problems of the retirees and the tea producers, we will win their hearts; if we cannot, we will not get votes, it is that clear.”
