Speaking regarding the term 'founding leader' used by Bahçeli for PKK terrorist organization ringleader Abdullah Öcalan, MHP Deputy Chairman İsmail Özdemir said, "Whether we accept it or not, this is a technical reality. The Chairman expressed this reality. Turkey needs to move past some things. We must think more broadly and positively. As a country, we have many goals."
Speaking to Habertürk columnist Nagehan Alçı, Özdemir made evaluations regarding the recent developments in Turkey and Syria.
Stating that the MHP fully and strongly supports the agreement in Syria, Özdemir said, "Turkey and the process experienced here have a great contribution to this point reached. The Chairman took his steps by foreseeing these events. If the 'Terror-Free Turkey' step had not been taken, Turkey would be bogged down in time-wasting debates today."
"WE CONDUCTED A STUDY"
Speaking about his party's stance on the "New Constitution," Özdemir said the following:
"As the MHP, we conducted a study in 2021 and shared it with the AK Party, but we did not share it with the public. However, our red lines are clear. We need to proceed systematically. We will walk with confident steps into the 21st century with a more democratic, more inclusive Turkey. It is necessary to prepare the legal and diplomatic infrastructure for this. We must trust ourselves."
