During the November meeting of the Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Council, a decision was made to change the name of the "Devlet Bahçeli City Square" in Salihli to "Atatürk City Square".

While the decision came to the agenda with the statement by MHP Provincial Chairman Cüneyt Tosuner that "we will not be responsible for what happens if even the letter D is touched," a different assessment came from MHP Headquarters.

'OUR SENSITIVITY REGARDING ATATÜRK'S NAME IS COMPLETE'

MHP Secretary General İsmet Büyükataman expressed their satisfaction with the name change, saying, "The Nationalist Movement Party respects the memory of Atatürk and is committed to his ideas. We support the municipal council's sensitivity to keeping the name of Atatürk alive."

WE WILL NOT BE PART OF THE DISCUSSIONS

Following the proposal brought to the agenda by CHP members, Büyükataman reiterated their support for the decision, stating, "The Nationalist Movement Party will not enter into purposeful discussions regarding Atatürk, and will continue to uphold his ideas and memory. Because to say Atatürk is to say Turkey."

Büyükataman stated that MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli has always supported keeping the name of Atatürk alive, adding, "Giving the name Atatürk City Square to the square in Salihli has pleased our Chairman, Mr. Devlet Bahçeli, and us."
