Former Ülkü Ocakları President and Hacettepe University faculty member Assoc. Prof. Sinan Ateş lost his life as a result of an armed attack he was subjected to in Ankara on December 30, 2022.
The 22 defendants processed in relation to the murder will begin to be tried on July 1, 2024, on charges of "premeditated murder," "attempted murder," "incitement to crime," and "aiding and abetting a crime."
A critical meeting took place before the first hearing of the Sinan Ateş case.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan received Sinan Ateş's wife, Ayşe Ateş, at the Presidential Complex.
Ateş's daughters Bengisu and Banuçiçek were also present at the meeting. The meeting between President Erdoğan and Ayşe Ateş lasted one hour.
Ayşe Ateş, who met with President Erdoğan, made a statement to journalists regarding the meeting.
'HE LISTENED AT LENGTH'
Ayşe Ateş thanked President Erdoğan for sparing time for them. Stating that Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç and Presidential Chief of Staff Hasan Doğan were also present at the meeting, Ateş said, "He really listened to me and my daughters at length. My daughters also had a long conversation and chatted with him. I explained the situation, clarified it, and we talked about the file."
'WE LEFT HIS SIDE VERY SATISFIED'
Expressing that the meeting went well and positively, Ateş stated, "We left his side very satisfied, and my daughters were happy too. We essentially poured our hearts out, so to speak; it was a meeting in that atmosphere." Ateş added, stating that her only request was for the trial to take place as quickly as possible and for justice to be served, "He also said that what is necessary will be done quickly."
Ayşe Ateş concluded her statement as follows:
"Whoever has made our lives a living hell with their threats and slanders, taking the breath away from my children, and praising crime and criminals by drawing strength from the silence of our President until today, let them think about what they will say tomorrow by looking at what they said yesterday. Because justice will surely be served, and no one's actions will go unpunished."
HARSH WORDS FROM SEMİH YALÇIN TO JOURNALISTS
Following President Erdoğan's acceptance of Ayşe Ateş, a written statement came today from MHP Deputy Chairman Semih Yalçın.
In his statement, Semih Yalçın used harsh words, naming some media organizations and journalists.
Yalçın used the following expressions:
"Media organizations that market their screens to leftist journalists such as Halk TV, TV 100, and Sözcü TV are enabling MHP-opposing types like Barış Yarkadaş, Bahar Feyzan, Ali Kemal Erdem, and Osman Sert to attack our party by bringing them on screen. Journalist Abdülkadir Selvi, whose subconscious is coded with MHP hostility, also voluntarily joins the MHP-opposing choir from time to time due to his nature and character.
Representing a unique version of sedition and discord in the media, Selvi moves between parties like a live bomb ready to explode. Selvi is not with those whose conscience bleeds, but with those whose morality bleeds."
THE MHP MEMBER IN THE SINAN ATEŞ FILE
It was noted that MHP's Semih Yalçın emphasized in his statement that there is no MHP member in the Sinan Ateş murder file. Yalçın said the following:
"No MHP official's name appears in the indictment of the murder case that leftist media members have been harping on about. As such, the case is being used by the leftist press to cast suspicion on the MHP, to harm our party, and to create a perception against us."
Semih Yalçın claimed that there were no MHP members in the Sinan Ateş murder file, but 12Punto published the document of the defendant who said "I am an MHP member" in its news report titled "Who is the only defendant who says 'I am an MHP member' in the Sinan Ateş murder?" dated June 3, 2024.
There are MHP members among the defendants in the Sinan Ateş murder.
Tolgahan Demirbaş and Emre Yüksel had served as Ülkü Ocakları executives. MHP lawyer Serdar Öktem, one of the defendants, had also been an MHP Istanbul parliamentary candidate.
Another MHP name is Ufuk Köktürk, an executive of the MHP Istanbul Provincial Presidency...
Only one of the defendants in the Sinan Ateş murder who is an MHP member said, "I am an MHP member."
12punto found that testimony in the thousands of pages of supplementary folders of the murder case.
Among those arrested was MHP Istanbul Provincial Board member Ufuk Köktürk. Köktürk's name, which was previously on the MHP Istanbul Provincial Presidency's website, was removed from the board of directors list.
Köktürk's words, in which he also underlined that he had an "unlicensed weapon" in the same testimony, are as follows:
"I did not run away the moment the police arrived; I was sitting in my house. I have an unlicensed pistol; I didn't even feel the need to hide it. I am already politically an MHP member."
Here is that record:
