Following the discovery of a drifting mine in the Black Sea at a point close to the coast of İğneada in Kırklareli, SAS teams affiliated with the Ministry of National Defense quickly took action in the region. The teams that set out to sea took security measures once it was confirmed that the suspicious object was a mine and neutralized it in a controlled manner.
In the information provided by the Ministry of National Defense, it was emphasized that naval ships and maritime air assets have been carrying out uninterrupted surveillance and reconnaissance operations 24/7 against the increasing mine threat in the Black Sea in recent times.
In a statement made by the Ministry of National Defense on social media, it was stated: "We continue our reconnaissance and surveillance activities 24/7 with the ships and maritime air assets of our Naval Forces Command against the threat of drifting mines in the Black Sea. Finally, the suspicious object detected off the coast of İğneada, which was determined to be a mine, was successfully destroyed at sea by our SAS teams."
Work is ongoing to determine whether there is a second dangerous situation in the region. Authorities warn citizens not to approach suspicious objects they see on the seashore under any circumstances and to report the situation to security forces.
