Bilge Kaan Şarbat, an executive of the CHP Kadıköy Youth Branch, was detained during a press statement organized by the branch to protest the minimum wage determined for 2026. The incident occurred during the demonstration held in Kadıköy.
After spending the night in police custody, Bilge Kaan Şarbat was transferred to the Kartal Anatolian Courthouse. Following the prosecutor's proceedings there, Şarbat was brought before the criminal judgeship of peace with a request for his arrest.
ARREST DECISION ISSUED
Upon the prosecutor's request, the judgeship issued an arrest warrant for Bilge Kaan Şarbat. It was learned that the investigation into the incident is ongoing following Şarbat's arrest.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Members of the CHP Kadıköy Youth Branch had gathered in front of the Kadıköy Bull Statue and marched to the Süreyya Opera House. During the press statement made after the march, criticisms regarding the economic situation and the current administration were voiced.
During the protest, CHP Istanbul Provincial Youth President Erdem Kara had announced that an executive from the CHP Kadıköy Youth Branch had been detained by police teams.
