Minister Ali Yerlikaya's statement on Narin: Judges will have the final word

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya made statements regarding the death of 8-year-old Narin Güran in Diyarbakır. Regarding the investigation, Yerlikaya said, "I believe this incident will be clarified very quickly. 85 million people are deeply saddened by this event. Everyone wants this case to be brought to light and justice to be served as soon as possible."

Responding to journalists' questions following the Presidential Cabinet Meeting, Minister Yerlikaya, when asked, "Did you make a presentation at the Cabinet Meeting, did you discuss this issue?" replied, "Currently, 4 prosecutors are conducting the investigation into this matter together with law enforcement. We will all see what happens."

'OUR MINISTER OF JUSTICE WILL SHARE THE DETAILS'

When asked whether the number of detentions would increase, Yerlikaya replied, "The process will continue based on what emerges from the statements given to the prosecutors. Our Minister of Justice will share the details. It is entirely within his jurisdiction."

Answering a question about whether there is strong suspicion regarding the motive of the incident, Yerlikaya stated the following:

"I believe this incident will be clarified very quickly. 85 million people are deeply saddened by this event. Everyone wants this case to be brought to light and justice to be served as soon as possible. Our President also said that he would follow up to ensure that whoever killed our daughter Narin is tried in courts and receives the punishment they deserve."

'YOU DID NOT OFFER CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILY'

When asked, "You did not offer condolences to the family in your post. Is there a suspicion based on that?" Yerlikaya commented, "I shared with the public that the lifeless body of our daughter Narin had been found. I wished for God's mercy. I wished for her to rest in peace. I said, 'May we all have patience.' It is quite clear, so there is no need to say anything more. I mean, it is a situation that everyone understands and feels when they read it. Is there a need to explain it again?"

Minister Yerlikaya used the expression, "I hope we do not face a situation again where we are ashamed of our humanity," and added the following:

'JUDGES WILL HAVE THE FINAL WORD'

"The press has also undertaken a very important task here and performed its duty. Judges and prosecutors will have the final word now.

You know that since I took office, I have always said this: we clarify the identified crime and take the perpetrator to deliver them to justice. This is my duty. The duty of the Ministry of Interior is to prevent crime, but if it cannot be prevented and a crime is committed, it is to catch the perpetrator and deliver them to justice. At this point, the matter is entirely in the hands of the judiciary."
