Minister Fidan's 'two-state solution' statement: We are ready to be a de facto guarantor

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan made statements regarding the current agenda on Ülke TV. Regarding the summit on Gaza in Egypt, Minister Fidan said, "The consensus reached and the signatures made in Egypt were historic. It was extremely important for Gaza, for the region, and for the reaffirmation of our President's role in global leadership."

In his statement regarding the agreement in Gaza, Minister Fidan said, "Everything is not over; everything is just beginning. Stopping the ongoing genocide here, ending the desperation faced by 2 million people as soon as possible, preventing them from being displaced from their homelands, and preventing the Palestinian people from experiencing a second exile were our strategic priorities."

"WE CAN STOP THIS GENOCIDE"

Stating that they also served as mediators in the 2008 war, Minister Fidan said, "Since the first Gaza War, we were tasked with this in 2008, and we were going to both Damascus and Cairo for mediation roles. The most important lesson we learned is this: if there is no permanent solution, if a two-state solution is not implemented, we can stop this war today, we can stop this genocide, but after a while, 5-6 years later, we will see this war again. As long as occupation and oppression continue, there will always be a stance against it, a resistance. We have explained this to the international community. We must finally put an end to this now."

"OUR ROLE IS A MEDIATOR ROLE"

Minister Fidan also warned about the events in Gaza, saying, "The conscience of humanity cannot bear this. If this inability to bear it is not turned into proper action by responsible people and this oppression is not ended, it will manifest itself in other ways later. We may face larger and more troublesome issues."

Emphasizing that Gaza is also important for the world, Minister Fidan said, "Because I know how the war works, I think there are massacres and executions being hidden from the cameras there. We also see that the blood of so many martyrs actually turns into mercy at the end of the day, and is a source of hope and a source of uprising for all the oppressed in the world. Our duty is to turn this into implementable politics."

Pointing to Turkey's role as a mediator, Minister Fidan said, "I need to clarify the issue of being a guarantor. The role we have played so far is the role of a mediator. To stop the war. Because of our support for and belief in the Palestinian cause, we used our sincerity toward them for the resolution of this issue. First, the Muslim countries needed to agree with the US and explain the issue to the side that both parties are sincere with, and bring them together as much as possible. The role we played is the role of a mediator."

Continuing his statement regarding being a guarantor, Minister Fidan said, "Currently, there is no structured situation that has been decided upon, with defined job descriptions and engagement definitions. In Trump's peace plan, there are concepts of 3 institutional mechanisms. A task force, a Peace Council, and a stabilization force. Early discussions are ongoing regarding the job descriptions and compositions of these."

"WE ARE READY TO TAKE ON THE RESPONSIBILITY OF BEING A DE FACTO GUARANTOR"

We are saying the following regarding being a guarantor, the mandate given to us by our President is as follows:

If an agreement emerges that the Palestinians also accept, we are ready to do whatever duty falls upon us. If a two-state solution is implemented, we are ready to take on the responsibility of being a de facto guarantor. Not every state can take this on. As long as a state based on the 1967 borders is given to the Palestinians."
