Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş made statements regarding the new regulation that will restrict social media use for children under 15. Minister Göktaş announced that the relevant regulation will be implemented within 6 months.

Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş answered journalists' questions following the Cabinet Meeting. Addressing the restriction regulation for social media use by children under 15, one of the most critical topics on the agenda, Göktaş gave a date for the eagerly awaited regulation.

"WE WILL IMPLEMENT IT WITHIN 6 MONTHS"

Stating that a special working group has been established within the Ministry for the regulation, Göktaş shared the details of the new era with the following words:

"We will determine the principles for social media use by children under 15 in a short time and implement the relevant regulation within 6 months. Once this regulation we are working on is completed, the new social media arrangement will effectively come into force throughout Turkey."

"AGE VERIFICATION WILL BE DONE VIA E-DEVLET"

Underlining the new obligations to be imposed on social network providers, Minister Göktaş stated that a strict inspection mechanism will be established to prevent children from accessing the platforms.

Göktaş stated that the age verification system will be implemented through different verification methods, primarily e-Devlet, and that this system will be created in coordination with the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) and the Cyber Security Presidency.
