Minister of National Education Tekin: There may be changes to the content of our textbooks every year

The second "Turkey Century Education Model Student Workshop," organized to receive the views and suggestions of students within the scope of the Turkey Century Education Model, was held at the Adile Sultan Palace Teacher's House in Istanbul.

Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin also attended the program. 129 students from 81 provinces participated in the workshop, which was organized regarding the implementation of curricula restructured to serve students' interests, needs, talents, and individual differences, and aimed at contributing to the Turkey Century vision. During the workshop, students from secondary education institutions took part in 11 subjects included in the weekly course schedule, while students from primary education institutions took part in 5 subjects, working in a total of 16 different study groups.

Each group exchanged views accompanied by moderators and rapporteurs who are experts in the Turkey Century Education Model.

SPECIAL MEETING FROM MINISTER TEKIN

Following the workshop, Minister of National Education Tekin held a special meeting with members of the Advisory Board, consisting of 23 students selected from different provinces. In the meeting, where students had the opportunity to present their suggestions regarding the model directly to Minister Tekin, the feasibility of the new curriculum and the importance of a student-centered approach were emphasized.

"WE HAVE IMPLEMENTED A PRACTICE THAT INCLUDES A VERY FUNDAMENTAL CHANGE"

Making statements at the workshop, Minister of National Education Tekin said, "As of the beginning of the 2024-2025 academic year, we have implemented a practice that includes a very fundamental change in educational philosophy. While preparing this program, which we launched under the name 'Turkey Century Education Model,' we held long consultations with our teacher colleagues, faculty member colleagues, academics, and students during the preparation phase.

This model we have put into practice will be a dynamic model; that is, we have started a changing process in which we will transfer developments to our programs moment by moment.

There may be changes to the content of our textbooks every year. We are not saying there will be, but there may be. If there are changes in our daily lives, social life, or the technological world, we want to adapt those changes to the program and our textbooks the following year. We have to do this.

For example, we experienced the earthquakes on February 6. May God never let us experience those disasters again. We say that when we experience such a disaster, we want to immediately process information about such issues or what needs to be done into our programs in a dynamic way the very next year," he said.
