Minister Tunç announces: Extradition decision made for Eylem Tok and her son Cihantimur

Minister of Justice Tunç announced that a decision has been made to extradite Eylem Tok and her son Cihantimur, who are currently detained in the US, to Turkey.

Following the accident that caused the death of Murat Aci, Timur Cihantimur had fled abroad with his mother, Eylem Tok.

The judge presiding over the case in Boston announced that the decision would be sent to the Department of State for approval.

EXTRADITION CERTIFICATE TO BE FORWARDED TO THE US DEPARTMENT OF STATE

Following the decision rendered regarding Tok and Cihantimur, it was reported that an extradition certificate would be prepared by the US government within a maximum of 7 days.

Court documents stated that the certificate in question would subsequently be forwarded to the US Department of State, and that the Department is expected to make a final decision regarding the handover of Tok and her son to the Turkish government.

It was emphasized that Eylem Tok and Timur Cihantimur will continue to be held in custody during this process.

Furthermore, it was conveyed that the extradition decision was taken in accordance with the Extradition and Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters Treaty signed between the US and Turkey on June 7, 1979.

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç also used the following expressions in a statement on his social media account:

Following the judicial investigation initiated after the fatal and injurious traffic accident that occurred in Eyüpsultan, Istanbul, the suspects Eylem Tok and Timur Cihantimur, who fled our country to the United States and were subsequently apprehended, detained, and arrested in the US as part of our extradition request, have been ordered to be extradited to our country by the Massachusetts District Court.

We will continue to pursue the necessary initiatives regarding the extradition of the suspects from the US to our country for the sake of justice.
