Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç, in a statement made via his social media account 'X', said, "With the mediation practice, we aim to resolve disputes without escalating them and to contribute to social peace.

Mediation, which is among the 'Alternative Dispute Resolution Methods' that are becoming increasingly effective in legal proceedings, both reduces the workload of the courts and allows our citizens to find solutions quickly and peacefully without entering into long and exhausting litigation processes," he said.

"CONCLUDED WITH MUTUAL AGREEMENT"

Stating that they made mediation mandatory for rental disputes as of September 1, 2023, Tunç said, "In this way, we have not only lightened the burden on our courts but also paved the way for our citizens to resolve their problems in a short time through a culture of reconciliation.

Within the scope of mandatory mediation for rental disputes, 383 thousand 502 applications have been made to date, and 135 thousand 673 applications have been concluded with the mutual agreement of the parties. In our three major provinces alone; 107 thousand citizens in Istanbul, 39 thousand in Ankara, and 23 thousand in Izmir have found solutions through mediation.

Across Turkey, 271 thousand of our citizens have resolved their problems by sitting around a table and talking, reaching a consensus without going to the courthouse.

We are determined to continue strengthening the institutional structure of the mediation system and facilitating access to justice in line with the Turkey Century Judicial Reform Strategy Document for a justice system that is not delayed, is predictable, and inspires confidence," he stated.
