Minister Tunç's statement on rent hikes: 'Our priority is inflation'

Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç also spoke about whether the 25 percent rent increase cap, which is set to expire on July 2, will continue.

Speaking on the current agenda on Haber Global, Tunç used the following expressions regarding the matter:

"Our priority is to meet the inflation target. The impact of the pandemic, the impact of the earthquake, and other factors are issues that negatively affect our economy. The whole world has been affected. The Parliament rightly considered such a measure. Whether or not this will be extended will be determined on that day. It is a decision that our Parliament will make when the conditions of that day arrive. We have launched a mediation system between landlords and tenants. We have reduced the debates on this issue to some extent."

WHAT HAD HE SAID?

Minister Tunç had previously stated the following:

"We launched the mediation period for rent disputes as of September 1. There will be no need for the 25 percent rent increase situation to continue."

A statement made by the Presidency's Directorate of Communications Center for Combating Disinformation also pointed out that no official statement had been made by official institutions regarding the non-extension of the 25 percent increase rate.
