Minister Uraloğlu makes announcement: Instagram reopened after one-week ban

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu excited those waiting for developments regarding Instagram by posting on his social media account, "I will be making an announcement about an important development shortly." In his statement, Uraloğlu announced that the issue with Instagram had been resolved. Instagram became accessible shortly after the announcement.

Citizens waiting for the reopening of Instagram, which had been blocked for over a week, were closely following Minister Uraloğlu, the official authorized to make a statement on the matter.

Stating that negotiations with Instagram were ongoing and that they had reached the final stretch regarding an agreement, Uraloğlu excited citizens with the post he shared on his social media account.

Using the phrase "I will be making an announcement about an important development shortly," Minister Uraloğlu made the announcement a short time later and shared the information that the Instagram ban had been lifted.

MINISTER URALOĞLU SAID THE FOLLOWING:

We had placed a block on access to Instagram; there were specific reasons for this. We had sensitivities regarding certain issues. As a result of the meetings held with the authorities regarding the resolution of these sensitivities, we have reached certain points.

I would like to explain these:

The removal of posts containing crimes will be ensured, and effective intervention will be carried out when there is a violation of the law.

The rights of the citizens of the Republic of Turkey will be protected.

Accounts will not be closed without warning, and the rights of our citizens regarding deleted accounts will be kept at the forefront.

Sensitivity will be shown by the META platform regarding the removal of accounts related to terrorist organizations.

Within the framework of these regulations, significant progress has been made regarding legal compliance and the protection of user rights; I would like to announce that there will be a visit to Turkey by META officials in the near future.

In this context, I thank the authorities who cooperated. As of 21:30, Instagram will be opened for use.

TERMS OF THE AGREEMENT ACCEPTED BY INSTAGRAM:

According to the statement made by Minister Uraloğlu, the conditions that META officials have agreed to comply with are as follows:

Within the scope of the laws of the Republic of Turkey, the immediate removal of content and posts that fall under catalog crimes will be ensured.

Compliance with Turkey's legal system will be ensured, and rapid and effective intervention will take place when a violation of the law occurs.

Accounts will not be closed without any warning.

The accounts and rights of Turkish users will be guaranteed.

Accounts that were closed without warning will be reopened for access.

Propaganda for terrorist organizations such as the PKK, PYD, and FETÖ will not be allowed on Instagram.

Posts that are contrary to the laws of the Republic of Turkey will be removed from Instagram.

In the event of any legal problem, Instagram will communicate with the authorities as quickly as possible.
