Minister Uraloğlu: Our children will be on digital platforms only as much as they need to be

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu attended the 'Ramadan at the Külliye' events held at the Presidential Külliye Beştepe National Exhibition Hall. Minister Uraloğlu toured the stands and chatted with children. Stating that there was a very high turnout for the 'Ramadan at the Külliye' event and that children were being drawn from the virtual environment to the real environment, Minister Uraloğlu said, "There is a very broad participation; I have only been able to visit a portion of it so far, and I hope to visit the rest. There is an opportunity here to teach our children our national and spiritual values. It is valuable not only to have a good time here but also to teach our children our national and spiritual values and to let them experience the tolerance and happiness of Ramadan in a fun way through games."

Responding to a question regarding social media regulations, Minister Uraloğlu said, "Our children will, of course, be on the internet and digital platforms as much as they need to be. What do we mean by 'as much as they need to be'? We want them to be able to do their homework, support their own development, and play games that are suitable for our culture to improve themselves. However, beyond that, we do not want these channels to take our children somewhere else entirely. Therefore, we do not want our children under the age of 15 to spend time on social media platforms in this sense. We will, of course, ensure their access to gaming platforms suitable for their age. We are conducting a study together with our Ministry of Family and Social Services. We have submitted it to the discretion of our Parliament in this legislative term. I would like to say that in the public opinion polls we have conducted in this direction, this study is supported by over 80 percent."

"We will definitely require gaming platforms with a certain number of users to appoint a representative"

Making assessments regarding the appointment of representatives to gaming platforms, Uraloğlu said, "We have required all social media platforms used in Turkey to appoint a representative. We will definitely require gaming platforms that have a certain number of users in Turkey to appoint a representative as well. Because we sometimes have difficulty reaching the authorized person or representative in another country. In such cases, we are forced to make radical decisions. By appointing a representative here, we want to continue on the right path and dictate to them the practices that take our country's laws and rules into account, ensuring they implement them."

"Roblox has made significant progress"

Responding to reporters' questions about whether Roblox would be unblocked, Uraloğlu said, "Roblox has made significant progress. We told them, 'You have content that might be valid in some countries, but we do not want such and such content to be in Turkey. We know that they lead to results that threaten the lives of our people, our children, and our youth. If you remove this content, we want your developmental aspects to be used in our country.' They have made serious progress, and we will resolve that as well with this law."
