Minister Yerlikaya addresses allegations of assault between imam and district governor

An investigation has been launched by the Governor's Office into allegations that Kulp District Governor Burak Akeller assaulted imam M.K. with a microphone at a mosque he attended for Friday prayers.

"I REACTED LOUDLY TO THE IMAM"

District Governor Akeller stated, "There was a prayer for mercy regarding our martyrs in this week's sermon.

The mosque imam did not read this part, so I reacted to him in a loud voice after the sermon."

"COMMENTS AND CRITICISMS ARE INTENTIONAL"

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, who made statements regarding the issue on his social media account, said the following:

Our Diyarbakır-Kulp District Governor Burak Akeller made a reminder to the mosque imam, who 'did not read the part regarding our martyrs' in the Friday sermon, to read it, and ensured that the text sent by the Presidency of Religious Affairs was read in full.

An investigation has been initiated by our Ministry regarding the allegations brought to the agenda following the incident.
