Minister Yerlikaya reveals the statistics on violence against women

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya stated in a post on his social media account regarding violence against women, "Unfortunately, 308 women lost their lives due to violence in 2023. In the first 6 months of 2024, 166 women unfortunately lost their lives."

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya made statements regarding violence against women on his social media account. Stating that "We approach the issue of violence against women with great sensitivity," Minister Yerlikaya announced the number of women who lost their lives due to violence in 2023 and the first 6 months of 2024. 

Minister Yerlikaya noted the following in his statement on his social media account:

We presented the work and projects carried out by our Ministry regarding 'Policies in the Field of Equality of Opportunity for Women and Men' to the esteemed members of the Turkish Grand National Assembly's Committee on Equality of Opportunity for Women and Men. We view equality of opportunity for women and men as a fundamental necessity for the progress and development of our country.

As the Interior Ministry family, we have 600 thousand personnel. In 2024, the number of our female personnel reached 10 percent of our total personnel. Hopefully, this rate will increase even further in the coming years.

Violence against women is at the top of the issues we approach with great sensitivity. In 2023, 308 women unfortunately lost their lives due to the violence they were subjected to.

In the first 6 months of 2024, 166 women unfortunately lost their lives. We never, ever accept violence against women, just as we do not accept any form of violence.

We strongly support every effort and initiative aimed at solving this issue.

With the electronic monitoring bracelet project, we have succeeded in preventing many potential high-risk cases of violence.

As of July 1, 2024, 689 cases are being actively monitored by the Electronic Monitoring Center.

In 2023, our electronic bracelet capacity was 1000. We increased this by 50 percent to 1500.

Our "KADES" application also has a very important place in the struggle we are waging in this field.

Since the day it was launched, 1 million 219 thousand reports have been received through the KADES application, which has been downloaded by 6 million 597 thousand people. These reports were evaluated in the fastest way possible and intervened by our nearest security units.
