Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya shared the traffic accident figures for the 4th day of the 9-day holiday announced by President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
26 CITIZENS LOST THEIR LIVES
Yerlikaya stated the following:
"Throughout the holiday, our Traffic Police and Gendarmerie Traffic units are continuing their inspections on a 24-hour basis.
On the 4th day of the holiday, Tuesday, April 9, 2024; 615 traffic accidents occurred. 431 thousand 871 vehicles were inspected. Speed and radar procedures were applied to 24 thousand 432 vehicles, and other procedures were applied to 38 thousand 425 vehicles.
In the first 4 days of the holiday; (Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday) a total of 2,453 traffic accidents occurred. Unfortunately, 26 of our citizens lost their lives. 3,870 of our citizens were injured. I wish God's mercy upon our citizens who lost their lives and a speedy recovery to our injured.
Our inspections have only one purpose. For our citizens traveling for the holiday to reach their families safe and sound. To embrace them. Please do not speed. Let us not neglect to wear seat belts in our vehicles and on buses. Let us obey traffic rules. Journeys exist to reunite you with your loved ones, not to separate you. Please let us not forget this. You cannot race against life!"
