The Center for Combating Disinformation (DMM) has denied claims that the statements of two ministers regarding the Kanal Istanbul Project were contradictory. The DMM stated that both remarks emphasized that while the project is not currently on the agenda, it has not been abandoned.

Attention was drawn to the fact that one day after Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum stated, "The subject of Kanal Istanbul is not on our agenda," Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu said, "We have not abandoned the Kanal Istanbul project. It is not on our agenda today, but when the time comes and we find the right financing, we will definitely do it."
The DMM issued a 'statement' regarding the remarks of the two ministers.
EXPLANATION FOR THE STATEMENTS
The statement issued by the DMM said, "Claims that the statements of Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum and Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu regarding the 'Kanal Istanbul Project' contradict each other are not true. Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum answered the question 'Will Kanal Istanbul be built?' by saying, 'The subject of Kanal Istanbul is not currently on our agenda. We have said before that it is not. Attempts to create polemics over Kanal Istanbul and pull the subject into other areas will remain unreciprocated in the eyes of our nation.'" The statement included the following remarks:
"As can be understood from the statement, there is no expression indicating that the 'Kanal Istanbul Project has been abandoned.' Minister Kurum emphasized that this is not currently on the agenda and that it is being unnecessarily used as material for polemics.
Minister Uraloğlu also answered the question about Kanal Istanbul as follows:
"...We will build Kanal Istanbul at the right time with the right credit and financing opportunities. We have not abandoned it. If you are bringing up Kanal Istanbul to change the agenda, I do not find that right either. We are not currently discussing Kanal Istanbul as an agenda item. We do not find it right to discuss it. However, we have not abandoned Kanal Istanbul. Kanal Istanbul is a necessity for Turkey. And we will do it at the right time"
