The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a written statement regarding the remarks made by officials of some countries concerning the 1915 events. The following statements were included in the Ministry's announcement:
"The climate of peace and reconciliation emerging in the South Caucasus is a strong response from those who want the region to become a basin of cooperation and stability to those who try to generate hostility from history.
In the debate on the 1915 events, the stance of the parties that the issue should not be made a subject of political exploitation is clear. Conversely, it is also observed that some third-country politicians are attempting to use the issue for their narrow political calculations or are trying to cover up their own responsibilities.
Our country, which has hosted the strongest examples of a culture of coexistence for centuries, has opened its archives and proposed the establishment of a Joint History Commission in order to examine the 1915 events on a fair and scientific basis. This proposal of ours remains valid. We invite third parties with constructive intentions to support the efforts aimed at reaching a common and fair memory and the recently developing environment of constructive dialogue."
