Ministry of Foreign Affairs: We reject it in the strongest terms

In a written statement released on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' official website, it was stated: "We reject in the strongest terms the statement made today (July 7) by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, which constitutes interference in the ongoing judicial processes in our country.

Turkey has guaranteed fair and impartial judicial processes for all its citizens within the framework of the rule of law. The judicial proceedings in question are being conducted by independent judicial bodies in accordance with the Turkish Constitution and legislation.

Considering that in France, the main opposition leader was sentenced to prison by a court decision and banned from participating in elections, and that cases against some mayors are ongoing, it is clearly evident that the statement in question contains double standards.

We advise France to respect our domestic law and judicial independence, to refrain from making politically motivated statements regarding other countries, and to focus on its own internal affairs."
