Ministry of Interior launches investigation into former AKP mayor

The Ministry of Interior has launched an investigation into former Mayor Mustafa Sayım Tandoğan for allegedly authorizing the construction of an unlicensed café on the Yason Cape Peninsula, which is located in the Perşembe district of Ordu and is protected as a 1st-degree archaeological and natural site.

It was determined that during his tenure as mayor between 2019 and 2024, Tandoğan issued an operating license for the structure, which was built in violation of the Coastal Law.

CONTRADICTION IN LICENSING DATES

According to information reported by BirGün, although the Perşembe Municipality council decision was made on July 13, 2021, it was discovered that the license had been issued a month earlier, on June 18, 2021. Following this contradiction, the Ministry of Interior's Board of Inspectors requested a defense from Tandoğan. As part of the investigation, the details of the construction and the licensing processes are being examined.

FORMER MAYOR'S DEFENSE AND ALLEGATIONS

Mustafa Sayım Tandoğan initially admitted to making a mistake regarding the process. However, he later argued that he had issued a demolition order and revoked the license.

Tandoğan also stated that the demolition did not take place while waiting for a court decision. Furthermore, Tandoğan's claims that the new Mayor, Cihat Albayrak, had issued the business opening and operating license were denied by Albayrak. Albayrak stated that the licenses were issued before he took office.
