Ministry of Treasury and Finance responds to claims that 'support program was terminated by Şimşek'

The Ministry of Treasury and Finance stated that the Turkey Family Support Program ended automatically due to its time-limited nature, without requiring the signature of Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek, adding, "Our Minister has no instructions regarding the termination of the program."

In the statement issued by the Ministry regarding the matter, it was reported that the news article published in a newspaper titled "Support for families is a luxury" was "false" in its entirety.

Pointing out that it had become necessary to clarify the issue in order to inform the public correctly, the statement noted, "Because the program was time-limited, it ended automatically without the need for a ministerial signature. The Turkey Family Support Program, carried out by the Ministry of Family and Social Services, was a program launched for a temporary period in June 2022 and naturally ended at the end of the foreseen period. Our Minister of Treasury and Finance has no instructions regarding the termination of the program. In this context, the news reports in the press do not reflect the truth."

Resources allocated for social assistance expenditures increased to 651 billion liras

Drawing attention to the fact that the budget for this year allocates resources to an inclusive social support system and looks after every segment of society, the statement recorded the following:

"We continue our social assistance with a broad perspective, from our disabled brothers and sisters to our elders over 65, and from those without social security to protecting family unity and supporting low-income families. We have increased the resources we allocated for social assistance expenditures in 2025 to 651 billion liras. We have raised social assistance expenditures, which were 0.4 percent of the national income in 2002, to 1.1 percent in 2025. It is of great importance that such news, which has been spread consciously in recent times without verification and with the aim of creating a perception in the public, is not given credence and that our citizens are more careful against such intentional and misleading news. We also invite the public to be sensitive and careful in the face of such baseless news."

It had been claimed that Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek had cut the support of up to 1250 TL provided to families without the knowledge of AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
