Ministry issues statement on claims regarding TurkStat appointments

The Ministry announced that legal action will be taken regarding the dissemination of misinformation to the public.

The Ministry of Treasury and Finance has issued a statement declaring that claims in the press regarding the dismissal of the TurkStat President are untrue. The statement from the institution noted that reports in some newspapers with headlines such as "The bill was footed by TurkStat" and "TurkStat President dismissed before his term ended" do not reflect the truth.
In its statement, the Ministry emphasized that such posts constitute "deliberate disinformation" and that there is a purposeful attempt to misinform the public.
The Ministry's statement included the following: "As is known, the term of the former TurkStat President, Mr. Erhan Çetinkaya, ended in January, and he continued his duties in an acting capacity until a new president was appointed. In this respect, it is observed that the public is being misled by manipulative and false statements claiming he was 'dismissed' during a period when no appointment had been made. We reserve all our legal rights regarding the aforementioned misleading news."
Mehmet Arabacı, Vice President of the Revenue Administration, was appointed as the President of TurkStat by a decision published in yesterday's issue of the Official Gazette.
